Chicago starter Jack McDowell pitched well against the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-4. McDowell, now 15-9, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 4 runs. Chicago, at 94-66, sits in first place in the American League Central Division.
The White Sox got an important contribution from second baseman Eddie Collins Sr, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a first pitch fastball to right-center for a 2-run triple. It was his 12th triple of the season and put the White Sox ahead, 6-1.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Chicago manager .
