Win Puts Mathewson in Record Book Sunday, September 25th , 2016 A new name has been written in the league record book. Christy Mathewson of the San Francisco Giants is the proud owner of the record for most wins in a season. He notched victory number 22 today at Petco Park, breaking the old mark set by Ron Guidry. Philosophizing with the press after the record-setting game, Mathewson remarked, "My game plan is to throw the ball as far from the bat and as close to the plate as possible. The main thing I want to do is keep the ball off the fat part of the bat. I want to give the batter something 'almost' good to hit." For this year, Mathewson has chalked up 22 wins and 5 losses in 33 starts with 196 strikeouts in 249.2 innings and a 3.03 ERA. |
